Swim Upstream

Life is so upstream! Why can’t the good way of life be with the current? The easy answer is to say, “That’s just not the way it is.” Only dead fish go with the stream all the time. This is reflected in Jesus’ teaching about the ways of life and death. “Broad is the way and wide is the gate that leads to death.” It is the easy way. It is the way of the world. It speaks of abundance diversity, richness, and appears as if it can deliver these things. Its force is a strong current compelling people to “go with the flow.” Its end is death.

“Narrow is the way and straight is the gate that leads to life and few there are who find it .” It is the hard way. It calls us to go against the currents of this world; to go in the opposite direction . It speaks of sacrifice, denial, poverty, and appears to deliver these. This way is so hard we cannot travel on it in our strength alone. But provided for the traveler is the power of Christ, and the end is eternal life so good, why would anyone want to go with the flow? -- Ben
